An National Design and Familiar Symbol

The updated livery incorporates a patriotic palette to reflect the UK flag and will be applied on rolling stock, at railway stations, and across its digital platforms.

Notably, the symbol is the well-known double-arrow logo presently used by the national rail network and originally created in the mid-20th century for British Rail.

A Implementation Strategy

The phased introduction of the design, which was developed in-house, is expected to occur in phases.

Travellers are set to start seeing the newly-branded services across the national network from spring next year.

In the month of December, the design will be exhibited at major stations, including Glasgow Central.

A Journey to Public Ownership

The Railways Bill, which will allow the creation of GBR, is currently progressing through the Parliament.

The government has stated it is renationalising the railways so the service is "run by the people, operating for the public, not for corporate interests."

GBR will bring the running of passenger trains and tracks and signals under a unified structure.

The department has said it will unify seventeen different bodies and "cut through the notorious bureaucracy and lack of accountability that has long affected the railways."

Digital Features and Current Ownership

The rollout of Great British Railways will also feature a new mobile application, which will allow users to check timetables and book tickets free from booking fees.

Passengers with disabilities travellers will also be have the option to use the app to book assistance.

A number of operators had previously been taken into public control under the outgoing government, including LNER.

There are currently seven train operators already in state ownership, accounting for about a third of journeys.

In the past year, c2c have been nationalised, with additional operators anticipated to follow in 2026.

Official and Sector Reaction

"This isn't just a new logo," commented the Transport Secretary. It symbolises "a new railway, casting off the problems of the past and dedicated solely on delivering a genuine public service."

Industry representatives have welcomed the pledge to improving the passenger experience.

"We will continue to work closely with relevant bodies to support a seamless handover to GBR," a senior figure added.
