Accused Stalker Questioned: 'However Imagine I Am Madeleine?'
A female charged with harassing Kate McCann apparently recorded her a voicemail message which posed: "suppose I am Madeleine?"
Julia Wandelt, twenty-four, who a jury heard has persistently claimed she was the disappeared Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are facing charges accused with pursuing Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February 2025.
On Monday, the tribunal learned communication data and data recovered from phones logged Ms Wandelt repeatedly asking Madeleine's mother for a biological test over 2023 and 2024.
Madeleine's disappearance in 2007 - at the age of three during a vacation in Portugal - is one of the most publicized missing child cases and continues to be open.
'I Don't Want Money'
One recorded message, played in court, documented Ms Wandelt stating: "I realize I'm fat and not pretty like Madeleine had been, but I know what I feel."
While another instance of Ms Wandelt's recordings with Mrs McCann's recording said: "What if there is a slight possibility that I'm her? What then? Isn't that crucial for you?"
"I do not need money, I possess a existence here in Poland, I simply desire to understand," she added.
The tribunal was told that through emails, text messages and communications, Ms Wandelt requested a biological test, transmitted childhood photos to her phone in a effort to demonstrate a similarity to Mrs McCann's vanished daughter, and asserted to have "recollections" from a youth with the McCanns.
Robert Jones, an intelligence analyst with Leicestershire Police who compiled the data, advised the court there "didn't appear to be any replies" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt furthermore reached out to close associates of the McCanns, based on the communication logs.
On 9 October 2024, the father picked up a communication from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "the wrong phone."
That day Ms Wandelt deposited a message on Mrs McCann's voicemail saying "I will persist and I intend to demonstrate my position."
The court was informed the co-defendant established a relationship online with Ms Wandelt prior to assisting her on a trip to the McCanns' property in the county in that winter.
Call logs revealed Mrs Spragg had communicated through WhatsApp to Mrs McCann to state the news outlets had characterized Ms Wandelt as "emotionally disturbed" but that she should be taken seriously in the months leading up to the appearance to Rothley, Leicestershire, in last December.
The court learned communications between the two defendants, in that autumn, considering endeavoring to obtain Mrs McCann's biological evidence from her bins or from cutlery at a dining venue.
"We need to take action," the co-defendant informed Ms Wandelt.
On the night of the trip to their home, Mrs Spragg transmitted a text which stated: "We are sat outside the McCanns' house with our lights out like private investigators. I desired to do this with another person I never thought I would be involved in this with the McCanns."
The trial continues.
