Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Has Liverpool's Support After PSV Eindhoven Loss
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's natural for concerns to be raised about his future following another convincing loss against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their ninth defeat in twelve games, marking the team's poorest streak after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult night at Anfield.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I have got plenty of backing from management,” Slot stated.
“It's important to change things and secure a win naturally but if you are working as a coach and not doing well then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I'm comfortable with my role. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it's necessary that we turned it around.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to expand on his discussions with the club's leadership, the head coach revealed:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me every single minute of the day to say they back me.”
He added, “Through standard exchanges I feel the confidence. But I've not talked to them after this game yet so let’s see.”
Persistent Failings and Player Reaction
The manager expressed regret over familiar failings from his team in their Champions League defeat, specifically poor finishing and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones stated.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the phrases.”
He went on, “It's tough because I play for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team experiencing a period such as this with outcomes so bad.”
Jones stated, “But we still have the emblem on our chest. And as long as it is taken away, we'll continue to battle.”
“We will attempt to get this team back to its rightful place, show everyone again what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the best team in the planet.”
