Disputed American-supported GHF Aid Organization Concludes Relief Activities

The debated, United States and Israel-funded Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) announces it is terminating its relief activities in the Gaza region, subsequent to approximately 180 days.

The organisation had previously halted its three food distribution sites in Gaza after the truce agreement between Hamas and Israel came into force six weeks ago.

The foundation sought to circumvent United Nations channels as the main supplier of aid to Gaza's population.

International relief agencies refused to co-operate with its approach, stating it was improper and dangerous.

Hundreds of Palestinians were fatally wounded while trying to acquire nourishment amid turbulent circumstances near GHF's sites, mainly through Israeli military action, according to the UN.

Israeli authorities stated its soldiers fired warning shots.

Program Termination

Organization Timeline

The organization commenced activities in Gaza on May 26th, a week after the Israeli government had moderately reduced a complete restriction on humanitarian and trade shipments to Gaza that lasted 11 weeks and led to substantial deficiencies of vital resources.

After 90 days, a food crisis was announced in the Palestinian urban center.

The GHF's food distribution sites in the southern and middle regions of Gaza were administered by US private security contractors and located inside Israeli military zones.

Humanitarian Concerns

International organizations and their affiliates claimed the system contravened the basic relief guidelines of non-partisanship, even-handedness and self-determination, and that directing needy individuals into armed forces regions was fundamentally dangerous.

United Nations human rights division said it recorded the deaths of a minimum of 859 residents attempting to obtain nourishment in the proximity to foundation locations between 26 May and 31 July.

A further 514 persons were fatally wounded around the courses followed by international humanitarian deliveries, it further stated.

The greater part of these people were lost their lives due to the Israeli forces, based on the agency's reports.

UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric declared this week that the GHF's shutdown would have "zero effect" on its operations "since we never collaborated with them".

The spokesperson additionally stated that while additional assistance was reaching the Palestinian territory since the halt in hostilities began on 10 October, it was "inadequate to meet all the needs" of the 2.1 million population.
