Iran Claims Attack on US Base in the Kingdom of Bahrain, During Widespread Retaliatory Strikes.

Iranian forces say they have struck a American military facility in Bahrain, as Iran launched strikes across the region in response for a large-scale and continuing assault against it by the United States and Israeli forces.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an zone in the area of the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The scope of any damage is not yet known and the US has yet to issue a statement.

Regional Interceptions

Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - which all house US military bases - reported they have intercepted missiles in their airspace.

In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence stated it had successfully engaged several missiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the region.

IRGC Statement

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was striking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the offensive on the Islamic Republic launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.

That preceding assault - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on areas associated with the Iranian leadership, with President Trump encouraging the Iranian people to rise up against the regime.

Wider Impacts

In Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israeli military stated it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The Ministry of Defence of the UAE said in a statement that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems engaged the missiles with high efficiency and shot down a series of missiles," the statement continued.

The statement noted missile fragments landed in a neighborhood in the capital, resulting in some structural damage and killing a civilian.

The United States Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
