Manchester United Poised to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Signing for United
Schüller, who has half a year left on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League side.
Departure from Bayern has been anticipated since she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the club's fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading strikers. Per reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.
Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Forward Line
The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a major boost to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Steam at Old Trafford
Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United appear to be building positive momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has brought further activity:
- The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
