The star has revealed that she believes it's no longer fitting to speak out countering the Trump administration, concerned it could worsen divisive discussions and further divisions across the United States.

‘I’m Unsure If It’s Wise’, Notes Jennifer Lawrence

During a discussion, Lawrence shared, “During the first Trump administration, I believed I was running around in a panicked state. But as we’ve learned, over multiple voting cycles, celebrities fail to influence in any way on electoral choices.”

The actor went on, “So then what am I doing? I’m just expressing personal views on a matter that’s going to worsen tensions tearing the country apart.”

Changing Allegiances

Lawrence has previously been open about backing right and leftwing contenders throughout her life. Raised by Republican parents in Kentucky, she cast her ballot for John McCain in 2008 prior to switching to the Democrats and stating she realized during President Obama’s term that supporting the GOP was opposing her own rights as a woman.

Previous Comments

In 2015, she commented that Donald Trump’s election might signal “a disaster” and publicly supported Joe Biden in the 2020 election. During the most recent election, she lent her support to Vice President Harris, “because I think she’s an excellent choice and I am confident that she will take all necessary steps to safeguard women’s health rights.”

Industry Position

Lawrence was joined by many in the entertainment industry in her opposition to Donald Trump as a candidate for re-election, but the minimal impact stars have over the public choices was emphasized by his election win.

“The second term seems distinct,” said the actress regarding his administration. “As he made his plans clear. We understood his record for his first term. He was explicit. And voters made that decision.”

The actor is discussing her new film, director Lynne Ramsay’s project in which she stars as a young mom who deals with her psychological well-being in rural Montana. During a press conference for the movie in Venice, Lawrence commented on Israel’s bombings in Gaza: “I’m terrified. It’s devastating. What’s happening is equivalent to a atrocity and it’s awful.”

The actress elaborated by saying that she was disheartened by “the lack of civility in the conversations of U.S. political debates at present and how that is going to be accepted to the kids today. It’s going to be normal to them that leaders are untruthful.”

While the director has denied the narrative being interpreted as one of postpartum depression and mental illness, the actress shared that she did relate to aspects of her character’s journey after the delivery of her youngest child, soon after production wrapped.

“There was concern regarding my baby,” she said, “just picturing every potential danger, and then questioning everything that I was attempting. I was already in therapy, but I got on a drug called that medicine and I continued it for a short period and it was effective.”

Lawrence also discussed of the liberating necessity of shooting revealing sequences in the film while she was expecting and couldn’t work out.

“There’s a freedom,” she said, regarding the need to set aside self-consciousness. “Honestly, I do have moments where I’m like, How exactly do I differ between myself and a sex worker? But it doesn’t keep me up at night.”
